Lay It on Me is a recent, successful single by Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy. This arrangement was transcribed from a live performance on the Jimmy Kimmel Show.
I’m not ashamed to admit I counted over 100 bars’ rest while transcribing this. But sometimes that’s what it takes to extract a really nice, catchy, trumpet line.
I’ve added some “do-wah” phrasing under some notes, which helped me to emulate the original when I recorded this.
Matt Mulholland is a comedian and musician from New Zealand. On his YouTube channel, you’ll find a whole host of original music, along with various covers he has done. He is highly skilled at vocal harmonies, and his live looping prowess is second to none. He also has a stellar vocal range!
Blues guitarist and singer Albert King recorded Born Under a Bad Sign in 1967. It proved to be his best-known song and has been covered by many artists, from Cream to Homer Simpson.
Unfortunately, Bandhub went offline before this recording could be finished.
I can’t get enough of this great cover by Save Ferris; a ska version of the hit song Come on Eileen, made famous by Dexys Midnight Runners. A joy to transcribe and play!
I was reminded of this opening sequence from Monty Python’s Life of Brian. With its James Bond / Shirley Bassey / Gold Finger style theme, grand trumpets and soaring strings, I simply had to transcribe and play it!
Officially known as “Brian Song”, this needed very sassy, sexy vocals to truly do it justice. And I knew just the lady for that! I couldn’t be prouder of the way this recording turned out, and it was a lot of fun.
Included are a score and charts for 3 x trumpets, flugelhorn, trombone, 3 x violins, and chords.
Special thanks to my very talented friend Ynping Mak, for creating the 3rd violin part to help build a larger “wall of sound” from her string section.
