I’ve played the exact same Michael Bublé arrangement of Sway with two different big bands as well as an online collaboration. In all cases, the charts were downloaded by someone for free from Mind for Music.
The arrangement is a good representation of the original recording, but there are gaps:
- It’s a vocal chart, not an instrumental. If you don’t have a vocalist, well, you can imagine how empty that sounds.
- The violin solo heard on the original recording has been written for an additional keyboard (synth strings). What big band has two keyboard players? So, another gaping hole!
To fill these gaps and allow the chart to be played with standard big band instrumentation I’ve created supplementary parts:
- Michael Bublé – Sway – Lead Sheets. Written for instruments in Concert Pitch, B♭, E♭, and Bass Clef. One musician could play the whole thing, or the melody could be split and shared around. Chords are included, allowing for the repetitive melody to be supplemented with solos.
- Michael Bublé – Sway – Violin Solo transposed for Reeds. Could be played on flute, clarinet, alto, or tenor sax. Maybe even guitar, now that I think about it…
So many options! 😉
