This was unusual. My Netherlands-based Bandhub collaborator Cor Japin envisaged trumpet accompaniment to this children’s song, performed by local celebrity Kim-Lian van der Meij. He sang and recorded the harmonizing trumpet parts, which I then transcribed and played.

Once all parts were recorded he sent the link to Ms van der Meij, who reacted favorably to the tribute on Twitter (in Dutch). Nice work, Cor!

I’m not publishing the video because it contains Kim-Liam’s copyrighted material, but here is the written record of that unique adventure.

Why of course Ariana Grande can play the trumpet! Who needs an embouchure anyway? Heh-heh….. Although I will admit that I use the pistol grip to hold the valve casing with my left hand, just as she does in this grab from the music video for this song. I’ve held the trumpet that way since Dad taught me to, based on a Maynard Ferguson album cover. And if it’s good enough for Maynard…..

Anyway, I transcribed this song for trumpet and tenor sax so now you can play just like Ariana and her dancers.
